Competitive Advantage Definition

A competitive advantage can be defined as an advantage a firm has over its competitors in terms of the amount of value it creates for its customers. Porter (1980) argues that value can be created by producing a product/service at a lower cost, providing greater benefits, or a combination of the two. To obtain competitive advantage a firm needs to supply its customers with more value than its competitors (Passemard & Kleiner, 2000).
