Downsizing Definition

Budros (1999) defines the downsizing as ‘an organisation’s conscious use of permanent personnel reductions in an attempt to improve its efficiency and/or effectiveness’ (1999: 70). Organisational downsizing is a managerial strategy that affects the size of a firm’s work force and associated work processes, involving a set of activities designed to improve organisational efficiency, productivity, and/or competitiveness (Freeman & Cameron, 1993).
