Public Private Partnerships Definition

Although international definitions vary, in the UK a Public Private Partnership (PPP) usually refers to an approach to public service provision that involves some kind of 'risk sharing' relationship based upon an agreed aspiration between public bodies and private (including voluntary) sectors to bring about a desired public policy outcome. This usually takes the form of a long-term and flexible relationship, underpinned by contract, for the delivery of a publicly funded service (IPPR, 2001).
