Strategic Planning Definition

Strategic planning is made up of two components: Strategy and planning. Mintzberg (1994) defines planning as a formalised process aimed at producing an articulated result, in the form of an integrated system of decisions; and strategy as a planning process supported by planners. Strategic planning is a disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions aimed at shaping the nature and direction of an organisation’s activities (Bryson, 1988).
