New People Professional Apprenticeship Launched

We are delighted to introduce the Level 5 People Professional Apprenticeship, a programme designed for aspiring and established HR professionals who want to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a meaningful contribution to organisational success. Delivered alongside the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management, this apprenticeship provides a practical and nationally recognised pathway for those looking to develop their expertise, strengthen their professional credibility, and progress their career in people practice.

The programme combines academic learning with practical workplace application, enabling apprentices to develop the capability to support managers, influence decision-making, and contribute to effective people strategies. Whether you are developing your career in Human Resources or expanding your responsibilities within a people function, this apprenticeship provides the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in a modern, fast-paced workplace.

Throughout the programme, apprentices will build expertise across a range of core areas, including:

  • People Practice and Organisational Performance: Understand how organisations operate, how external factors can impact the business, and how people practice contributes to achieving strategic objectives.
  • Employment Law and Employee Relations: Develop the confidence to apply employment legislation, support managers, contribute to workplace policies and promote fair, ethical and inclusive employment practices.
  • Evidence-Based Practice and People Analytics: Learn how to interpret workforce data, evaluate evidence and make informed recommendations that improve people practices and organisational outcomes.
  • Talent, Workforce Planning and Development: Explore approaches to attracting, developing and retaining talent while supporting workforce planning, learning and organisational capability.
  • Digital People Practice: Understand the role of technology, HR information systems, artificial intelligence and data protection in modern people management.
  • Professional Practice and Sustainable Growth: Develop professional judgement, ethical decision-making and continuous professional development while supporting wellbeing, inclusion and sustainable organisational success.

A key feature of this apprenticeship is its strong focus on workplace application. Rather than simply studying HR theory, apprentices apply their learning directly within their own organisation, using real business challenges to develop practical solutions and improve people practices. This approach ensures measurable value for their employer.

By the end of the programme, apprentices will be better equipped to advise managers, contribute to people initiatives and support improved organisational performance through confident, evidence-based decision-making.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and End-Point Assessment, apprentices will achieve the Level 5 People Professional Apprenticeship standard and the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management. They will also become eligible for Associate Membership of the CIPD (Assoc CIPD), providing professional recognition and a strong foundation for continued career progression.

Applying AI in the Workplace: Tools, Decision-Making, Human Judgement and Decision Support

AI is often presented as a fast route to better decisions, smarter work and efficiency. The evidence is more cautious. Organisations may invest heavily but still report limited business gains, partly because implementation needs more than technology alone (Reim et al., 2020). AI can support knowledge management by speeding up information collection and interpretation, but it struggles with tacit knowledge and can amplify problems in decision-making rather than reduce them (Trunk et al., 2020). This means responsibility does not disappear when AI is introduced. It shifts. Leaders and teams need transparency about how outputs are produced, literacy to choose appropriate applications, and training to interpret results responsibly. Cultural alignment also matters, because AI changes work practices and can trigger resistance and ethical concerns.

The importance of theory in coaching: A lifelong journey, not just a skill

This question is understandable. Coaching is not just about acquiring a set of tools, it’s about developing a way of thinking, being, and relating to others. While practical application is essential, understanding the theoretical foundations of coaching is what sets truly transformational coaches apart.
