Launched in September 2014, KnowledgeBrief’s Public Service Innovation Group quickly welcomed 26 new members, including the Environment Agency, Liverpool CCG and Cafcass. This new offering gives public service organisations the opportunity to benefit from our Management Innovation Programme for the first time, which has been running with private sector members for many years.
In a time where the public sector are having to do more with less resource, Dr. Nadim Fazlani explains why Liverpool CCG took the opportunity to join:
“Liverpool CCG commissions health provision for Liverpool residents, it has a budget of £770 million and together with Local Authority and NHS England the total spend on health and social care is £1.2 billion. Liverpool has among the worst health outcomes in the UK and faces - alongside the rest of the NHS – a challenging financial climate for some time to come. Liverpool CCG joined KnowledgeBrief to see what we can learn from systems other than health in terms of system transformation and change management. We want to apply the lessons learned to Liverpool’s health and social care economy.”
Since public sector members have joined the long established Management Innovation Programme, they have heard from a range of speakers, including global futurist, Rohit Talwar and political economist, Will Hutton. Both these talks focused heavily on innovation and Hutton’s in particular focused on how the public and private sector need to work together to make the UK a Global Innovation Hub.
Cafcass was another organisation to join without hesitation. Their Director of Finance, Julie Brown, stated:
“Cafcass takes a keen interest in how other organisations innovate to improve service users’ experience and also to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of its own operations. The membership and format of KnowledgeBrief seemed a promising combination to network and gain practical insight to other organisations’ work, as well as access to tools and frameworks to help tackle the challenge of running services under pressure. Having attended two sessions so far, looking at very different subject areas, KnowledgeBrief has delivered on both.”
After a successful start in 2014, KnowledgeBrief is planning to launch a Management Innovation Programme dedicated to healthcare in 2015. Head of Programmes at KnowledgeBrief, Paul Conneely, gives more information:
“The New Health & Care Programme builds on the approach developed with the private sector combining insights from the latest research findings, interdisciplinary workgroups and action planning. The new programme will also offer members the opportunity to hear how leading private sector organisations tackle the key challenges in innovation and leadership.”
