CLIC Sargent Level 3 Case Study

"The course has been fantastic and with the knowledge and frameworks you learn and can directly apply in your day job, you will become better at what you do."

What inspired you to take the Level 3 in leadership and management?
For the past 18 months, I’ve been managing the team of three in the fundraising team which is responsible for looking after CLIC Sargent’s high-value benefactors. Being relatively new into management, I felt it was a fantastic opportunity to increase my knowledge of managing teams, develop as a leader and formalise what I already knew.

What from the course so far, has made an impact in your role?
The learnings and assignments have collectively had a big impact in my role. The mixture of theory and actionable techniques tied together have taught me to objectively see the bigger picture as well as zoom in on the detail from a team and business perspective.

I feel really empowered by this.

How did you fit the Apprenticeship Levy’s 20% requirement in with your working day?
This was something that initially I felt might be challenging. However, I quickly realised I could merge the two worlds effectively.

The platform and syllabus allow me to select the CPD techniques which not only compliment my team’s and my own day-to-day priorities, but also our long-term objectives.

For example, I was recently working on new Personal Development Plans for my team and was able to quickly find the perfect technique and framework on the platform.

Compliment my team’s and my own day-to-day priorities

I used the repeatable framework to create development plans which are high quality and measure the right things for our organisation. Without access to the platform and having best-practice techniques to hand, this no doubt would have taken a lot longer to complete and would have been less effective.

Do you feel more effective as a result of the course?
Absolutely! One area where this has made a big difference is better communication and increased collaboration with other functions across the organisation.

What did you like the most about the way the course was delivered?
The blend of online and one-to-one training was brilliant. The techniques and articles sparked my imagination and the resources available were incredibly useful. I could quickly find a technique directly linked to a work-based project or challenge and find a solution or framework I could apply to make it happen.

If you were to describe the course in just three words, what would these be?
Focused — Relevant — Supportive.

Do you feel more confident as a leader?
Yes, without a doubt. My confidence has increased not only with my own team, but also with my peers and senior leaders in the organisation.

If you were going to recommend the Level 3 course, what would you say?
I’d definitely encourage people to do it. The course has been fantastic and with the knowledge and frameworks you learn and can directly apply in your day job, you will become better at what you do.
