Organisational Types and Structures: People Practice and Commercial Impact
Organisation type and structure shape how strategy is governed, how workflows are coordinated and how people decisions create value (CIPD, 2025a; Galbraith, n.d.). This research explores private, public and third-sector contexts alongside functional, divisional, matrix, network and agile forms. It supports senior HR learners to diagnose structural fit, align people practice with commercial realities and challenge designs that undermine accountability, agility, inclusion or performance.
